Engagement with the MMC

The current Mayor of Kampala, Erias Lukwago, is a founding mayor of the MMC and has served on the Leadership Board since 2018. Kampala signed the Marrakech Mayors Declaration, pledging to the Call to Local Action for Migrants and Refugees in 2022​ and 2023​. The City of Kampala was also a grantee of the Global Cities Fund for Migrants and Refugees​. Kampala also ​​​represented the MMC in several diplomatic events, including the 2020 Global Forum for Migration and Development​,​ ​​2022 International Migration Review Forum, ​and ​​the ​​MMC annual event on the sidelines of the ​​2023 Global Refugee Forum​​. The city also​​​ participated in advocacy campaigns on Covid-19 and Afghan refugees.
