Engagement with the MMC

The current Mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosse, has been a member of the MMC Leadership Board since 2022. The City of Montevideo signed Marrakech Mayors Declaration, pledging to the Call to Local Action for Migrants and Refugees in 2022 and 2023. The city is also a grantee of the Global Cities Fund for Migrants and Refugees, and represented the MMC in several diplomatic events, including the 2020 Global Forum for Migration and Development, 2022 International Migration Review Forum, and 2023 Global Refugee Forum.

Resound

With support from the MMC Global Cities Fund for Migrants and Refugees, Montevideo, is establishing the city’s first-ever early childhood care center for migrant and displaced families. The center will specialize in providing female caregivers with legal, medical, and employment support, while giving their children access to food, recreational activities, and a safe space to grow. Through this holistic approach, mothers and children will have greater access to their rights.
