Dr. Yousef Al Shawarbeh, Mayor of Amman, assumed the post in August 2017 having previously served as Deputy Mayor. He was the Chairman of Amman Municipal Committee in 2017 and Chairman of Addustour Newspaper’s Board of Directors in 2016. He has held various positions on many local committees, including the Investment Committee of the Greater Amman Municipality; the Local Organizing Committee of FIFA’s U-17 Women’s World Cup 2016; and the Decentralization Law Formulation committee. Mayor Al Shawarbeh was a member of the Human Rights National Plan Formulation committee and a Member of Amman Sister Cities High committee. Mayor Al Shawarbeh received a PhD in constitutional law from Sudan’s Al-Neelain University. He also holds a Bachelor degree in Law from Jordan’s Al-Ahliyya Amman University.
