Since 2022, Lviv has become Ukraine’s largest humanitarian hub, supporting over a 100,000 internally displaced people, including thousands of people affected and injured by conflict, and people with disabilities who require long-term rehabilitation and support. In a metropolitan area of approximately 1 million people, these communities continue to face challenges including social isolation, psychological barriers, and limited access to inclusive opportunities for physical activity and social participation. At the same time, their resilience and skills represent an important asset for the city’s recovery and social cohesion.
Through the UNBROKEN ecosystem, Lviv has developed a coordinated approach to rehabilitation and inclusion, bringing together municipal institutions, medical centers, foundations, and international partners to support affected communities and strengthen their long-term inclusion. Lviv’s GCF project will build on this foundation by expanding access to adaptive sport for internally displaced people, people injured by conflict, and residents with disabilities.
