With support from the MMC Global Cities Fund for Migrants and Refugees, Milan is providing  personalized educational and orientation plans for newly arrived migrant and refugee families with young children aged 0-6 years waiting to access ordinary municipal services or national refugee reception services. Using a two-generational approach, the program will introduces playgrounds and flexible preschool and daycare services for children, while providing their caregivers with job training, language courses, and cultural workshops.

Milan’s 2022 pledge to the Call to Local Action for Migrants and Refugees commits to change the dominant narrative of migration between Africa and Europe to one centered on the idea that connecting cultures and people can bring cities from both continents together and highlight the vital contribution of migrants to city economies and societies. In this framework, the City of Milan is partnering with the City of Freetown to create opportunities for exchange and collaboration between their fashion/design industries and creative communities.

Milan’s 2020 pledge to the Call to Local Action for Migrants and Refugees commits to ensure inclusive economic integration and development of migrants and refugees and protect the most vulnerable. Initiatives include “MENTOR 2,” which tests circular mobility schemes that offer professional traineeship opportunities to young Moroccans and Tunisians in Northern Italy, and the experimental Service Centre for Unaccompanied Minors, providing unaccompanied minors with first temporary residential reception and access to services for care and rights protection.
