Fatima Shama manages the global city leadership initiatives portfolio on the Government Innovation team at Bloomberg Philanthropies.
Fatima’s multi-sector career has a common thread of focusing on people, programs and possibilities that respond to the needs and opportunities to invest in, advance and support vulnerable communities. She has over three decades of experience in health and education policy, youth development, community and workforce development and advocating for and supporting immigrants and communities of color.
Before joining the Government Innovation team, Fatima served as the Head of Diversity and Inclusion for the Americas at Bloomberg LP. She served in Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s administration as the commissioner of the NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, the senior policy advisor on education and a policy advisor on health care access. Prior to joining Bloomberg LP, Fatima was the CEO and executive director of The Fresh Air Fund, a youth development nonprofit organization, in NYC.
