The Mayors Migration Council Stands with U.S. Cities Under Pressure
NEW YORK, NY—The Mayors Migration Council Leadership Board issued the following statement in response to the federal government’s use of the military in U.S. cities and against their immigrant communities:
“As an organization that works with mayors from across the globe, we stand united in solidarity with our communities and the values that hold them together: dignity, safety, and trust.
Peaceful protest is a cornerstone of democracy. Deploying the military in response to peaceful protests and migrant communities does not protect public safety—it erodes it. It breaks trust between governments and the people they serve.
Mayors know what works. They lead with compassion and facts, not fear. Migrants are part of our communities, and when our communities are in need, we respond—with leadership, not with force.
We stand with U.S. mayors defending their values, their communities, and their right to lead with humanity.”
